Terms of Use
Effective October 10, 2026
The rules for using Hearth, in plain words. Please read them before you create an account.
The short version
- Hearth is free, and you keep everything you enter.
- Numbers, forecasts and AI answers are not financial advice. Check anything important.
- A household is shared: invite only people you trust.
- Use it for your own household, fairly and legally.
- Hearth comes with no warranty, and you can leave and delete your account at any time.
1. These terms
These terms are an agreement between you and Guilherme Toti, the individual who runs Hearth (“we”, “us”). They cover the Hearth web app, the Hearth iOS app and the Hearth service behind them. By creating an account or using Hearth, you agree to them. If you don’t agree, don’t use Hearth.
How we handle your data is explained in our Privacy Policy, which is part of these terms.
2. What Hearth is
Hearth helps a household keep track of its money together: accounts, transactions, budgets, recurring bills, goals, a forecast, a weekly snapshot and an AI assistant, Ask Hearth. Hearth is free to use. It does not connect to your bank and does not move money. It only shows what you and your household enter.
Hearth’s source code is open source under the MIT license. That license governs the code. These terms govern your use of the Hearth service we run.
3. Not financial advice
Hearth shows numbers, totals, forecasts and answers to help you see your money at a glance. None of it is financial, investment, tax or legal advice. We are not a bank, a financial adviser or a broker.
The numbers are only as good as what is entered, and forecasts are estimates. Answers from Ask Hearth and the weekly snapshot are written by an AI model and can be wrong or incomplete. Check anything important before you rely on it, and talk to a qualified professional for financial decisions.
4. Your account
- You must be at least 13 to use Hearth, or at least 16 in the European Economic Area.
- Give your real email address, so you can sign in and recover your account.
- Keep your password and your devices safe. You are responsible for what happens in your account.
- Tell us at guilhermetoti@gmail.com if you think someone else has access to your account.
5. Households and sharing
A household is shared. Everyone you invite sees and can change the household’s data, and any member can export it. Only invite people you trust with your finances. The person who creates a household is its owner and can manage it in Settings.
What you add to a shared household belongs to the household. If you leave it or delete your account, the household and its data stay with the remaining members.
6. Your content
You keep all rights to what you enter in Hearth. You give us permission to store, process and display it only as needed to run Hearth for you and your household, including sending it to the service providers named in the Privacy Policy. Make sure you have the right to enter what you enter.
7. Acceptable use
Use Hearth for your own household’s finances. Don’t:
- break the law, or use Hearth to commit fraud or launder money;
- access accounts or households that aren’t yours, or try to get around Hearth’s security;
- overload, attack or disrupt the service, or scrape it with automated tools;
- use Ask Hearth for anything other than questions about your household’s money, or try to misuse it;
- upload harmful code, or harass or harm other people through the service.
8. Availability and changes
We work to keep Hearth running, but it is offered as is and may sometimes be unavailable. We may change, add or remove features, and we may stop running the service. If we plan to shut Hearth down, we will tell you in advance where we reasonably can, so you have time to export your data. You can export it at any time from Settings.
9. Ending your use
You can stop using Hearth at any time and delete your account in Settings → Your account → Delete your account. What happens to your data is described in the Privacy Policy.
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts the service or other people at risk. Where it is reasonable, we will tell you first and give you a chance to export your data.
10. No warranty
Hearth is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We don’t promise that Hearth will be uninterrupted, error-free or secure, or that its numbers, forecasts or AI answers will be accurate.
11. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of money, profits, data or goodwill, arising from your use of Hearth or your reliance on anything it shows. Hearth is free, and our total liability for any claim about it is limited to 50 US dollars. Some places don’t allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.
12. If you use the iOS app
If you downloaded Hearth from Apple’s App Store, these terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for Hearth or its content, has no obligation to provide support or maintenance for it, and is not responsible for any claims about it. Your use of the app must also follow the App Store’s usage rules. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
13. Your rights under the law
Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have under the consumer protection or data protection laws of the place where you live that cannot be waived by contract. If any part of these terms can’t be enforced, the rest still applies.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We will post the new version here and change the effective date at the top. If a change matters, we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. If you keep using Hearth after that, you accept the new terms. If you don’t, you can delete your account.
